An interactive website (search SKINDEEP, or go to cosmeticdatabase.com) will make it easy to separate out the dangerous beauty aids from your bathroom arsenal.
I’ve never been one to shy away from makeup – so far, it’s given protection from sun damage and I do take nutritional supplements which surely have fought the effects of cosmetic toxins … but I’m on to the next level – to use the website. It makes it easy to throw out any bad items that found their way into my collection, to be exchanged with healthier products (or none).
Fortunately, Herbalife came out with an all-natural cosmetic line about 15 years ago, and I’m still using their line for most of my uses – but when it was clear that distributors preferred to stay with consumable products, they discontinued sales of the line – so I can’t share them with you. Bare Escentuals started a great line (Bare Minerals) a little after Herbalife’s, and it’s easy to locate their product in malls and online. My biggest problem will be replacing my lipstick: the Revlon Overtime Lipcolor, with gloss that stays on almost the entire day – (even through dentist appointments, they always want me to take it off, but I insist that it won’t rub off). If enough of us were to bug Revlon, maybe they’ll tweak the formula?
I was very surprised to find that the haircolors I worried about barely hit the scale, so it won’t be total despair.

You can do a search for you specific product – can you believe that some brands of mascara even have mercury in them?
I believe that one of the big problems is incomplete cleansing at night. Everything must be completely removed, and a good toner must be used afterwards, like the rinse cycle of your dishwasher. Without the toner, the scum left on the face will not only leave dirt to age your look, but also many contaminants that will pollute your body.
Let me know if you used the site and purged your collection – and where you’ve turned for replacement products. Good luck!
