A woman walked up to a little old man rocking in a chair on his porch. “I couldn’t help noticing how happy you look,” she said. “What’s your secret for a long happy life?”
“I smoke three packs of cigarettes a day,” he said. “I also drink a case of whiskey a week, eat fatty foods, and never exercise.”
“That’s amazing,” the woman said. “How old are you?”
“Twenty-six,” he said.
If we could only see how we’ll look 20 years in the future as a result of our lifestyle, our eating habits! One show about overweight families did do age-enhancements to frighten participants into changing – for the rest of us, we need to look in the mirror and add the fat and sun-wrinkles in our imagination. It’d be worth it if we made changes – add quality years to our lives.
If you’re in doubt about the need to add supplements (and yes, I confess, I use and sell them), think about this:
- Can you eat all the servings of food needed to get your needed nutrition without gaining weight (are you that active?)
- Are you around pollution in the water and air, now even in the register tapes we’re given at the store?
- Do you eat too much salt, sugar and fat?
- Do you eat enough fiber?
- Does your fresh food still have vitamins in it after it’s been shipped to you, stored at the grocers and then in your refrigerator?
- Do you even know the recommended quantities of the food groups that you should have daily?
- Do you get the important MICRO-nutrients that are so necessary for energy and health?
- Do you have lots of stress?
- Do you have lots of energy, or are you dragging from day to day?
… over 70% of doctor visits are diet-related.
It usually starts with Diabetes II or high blood pressure, then it’ll be the gastric issues, then the side effects of the drugs for those two or three medications, then the kidneys give away, or you’ll have sleep or circulation issues, or personality changes … all because of a lack of proper nutrition.
If you take a high quality natural multi-vitamin that includes micro-nutrients, and hopefully a protein shake or two a day, you’ve pretty much covered your nutrition for the day and you simply won’t overeat and get into sugar-craving like before. If you don’t overeat, and eat too much sugar, diabetes shouldn’t knock on your door – or high blood pressure, etc. No meds, no side effects, better energy, better sleep, better life.
Some people think it’s a dreadful thing that vitamins cost money. But for me it’s always saved me money – no prescription drugs, more energy so I can do my own projects around the house, I don’t buy junk food, don’t need expensive sweet drinks … and, at the end of the day, it should mean that a longer life will be a quality life. What we’ve cut out pays for our supplements – and for people who lose their desire for smoking – wow! they REALLY save.
So, we’re in WEDDING PLANNING mode (again) … one wedding in February 2009, then December 2009, now planning through 2010 for July 2011. It does mean that this entire next year, we’ll be planning, re-planning and second-guessing. Sometimes I wish I didn’t care about how nicely things turn out, wouldn’t put that last little fluff to a bow – but that’s not me. So we’re looking for the wedding dress now and it’s the earliest that we’ve done that, so I hope it doesn’t drag on. We’re looking for a modest dress, which tends to limit the options somewhat. Thank heavens for sites that cater to “cover.” Our last one came from Walker’s Eternity Bridal and it was just beautiful – but since we’d never tried them before, it seemed like a gamble. It far exceeded our expectations.
So, back to supplements, just remember that the body needs:
- good oils/fats
- vitamins, minerals, micro-nutrients, herbs
That is NOT found in donuts, potato chips, sugar and salt. Your real health insurance is at least a good quality (non-synthetic) multi-vitamin. With age, you might want something for heart heath, prostate, menopause … but it starts with your basic nutrition.
There are sensational articles that are put out there to confuse people about vitamins … but they usually have short (sell papers) and long-term (pharmaceuticals) agenda, and is it logical to starve your body? Look at the health and weight of people – what is going on?? Look at yourself, add 20, hey, go 40 years and make a decision to act now, ’cause 40 years from now you can’t hit “re-run.”
